8 New Progressions in the No Huddle for 2014 By Mike Kuchar, Senior Research Manager, X&O Labs


The no-huddle system continues to advance and this season will be no different. As a follow up to our No-Huddle special report that XandOLabs.com released last off-season, we surveyed only those coaches with winning percentages over .500 that have used the system the past three seasons to see what they are doing differently this time around. We categorized their responses into 8 new advancements below, some of which may surprise you.

Relentless Off, To, and After the Ball By Jason Their, Defensive Coordinator, University of Mary


As an assistant at the University of North Dakota last season, Jason Their found that 32 percent (the majority) of all missed tackles occurred in the open field. So he started tailoring his teaching methodology into four categories of tackles- open field, engaged, in-the-hole and pursuit tackle. He presents his data, and the new teaching progressions he's using at the University of Mary this season, in this clinic report.

Noose Drill Progression Jeremy West, Offensive Coordinator, Stamford HS (TX)


If you’re looking for your offensive pass production to increase this season, the Noose Drill may be the answer. It’s a multi-faceted drill that works on negating press coverage- teaching receivers to attain leverage quickly at the line of scrimmage while training quarterbacks to finding throwing windows. It’s a staple at programs like Washington State, West Virginia and Baylor. And it can get done in all under five minutes.
